We are pleased to invite you to the international East -West Conference on Mathematics Education (EWCOME 2014), at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Warsaw, Poland
August 4-8, 2014

Goals:

The Conference theme is Breaking Down Barriers.
The barriers are between: mathematics and science, various subjects in education, diverse cultures, and scientists and teachers; barriers between mathematics and the general public; replacing the image of a cold and austere subject with mathematics of warm, human, inviting and challenging beauty. Our goal is to break down barriers by bringing together different approaches to education from different parts of the world.

The Conference is designed to break down these barriers through (1) the creation of innovative methods in mathematics education aligned with other subjects, (2) the application of new methodologies from science and art education, and (3) the application of the best teaching methods from around the world: East and West.

Connections between mathematics and other domains of knowledge will be presented throughout the Conference. These connections are twofold: we will present mathematics as a basis of natural and technical sciences, as well as its relationship with social sciences, the humanities and art; and we will present applications of these domains in math education. Participants will experience how art, visual transmission, computer graphics and other technology may be used to teach mathematical content and support problem-solving and mathematical reasoning.

Organizers:

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is the primary organizer of the Conference. Its faculty consists of outstanding specialists, primarily in sub-disciplines of psychology, who study teaching methods and problems of students and teachers. Collaborations regularly occur among interdisciplinary teams of practitioners and researchers from the hard sciences, social sciences and humanities.

In addition to numerous national and international conferences in psychology and the social sciences, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has organized the national conference of GeoGebra (free dynamic software for math education) since 2010, and was the organizer and host of the 2012 IGI GeoGebra (International GeoGebra Institute) Conference.

Additional organizers are:
