First video-conference in the GDLN (Global Development Learning Network)
On December 18, 2008 at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova was organized a teleconference aimed at the overcoming of the oil and food price crisis in Europe and Central Asia. The conference was held within the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) platform. Mr. Gary Fine, who is a Senior Specialist for Private Sector Development in Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank, presided and moderated the conference from Washington DC in the United States. Presenters were Mr. Ulrich Koester, Professor of Agricultural Economy from the University of Kiel in Germany, Mr. Derek Byerlee, advisor to the research and development group at the World Bank in Washington DC, and Mr. Bekzod Shamsiev, a Senior Economist of the Agricultural Economy sector, also of the World Bank, Washington DC, United States.
The reports concluded with a round of questions and comments from the participants addressed at the World Bank’s representatives. Besides questions that targeted issues discussed during the conference, participants suggested topics for future conferences organized by the World Bank.
