On February 12, 2010 the small hall of ASM hosted a plenary session of the representatives of the Department of Exact and Economical Sciences (institutional members, profile and associate members). The discussion focused on the priority research directions of the Department for the period 2011-2014.
The meeting was attended by Acad. Gheorghe Duca, President of ASM, Theodore Furdui Vice-President of ASM, Dorin Recean, Deputy Minister of Information Technologies and Communications, directors of institutes, representatives of the media.
The discussions highlighted issues and problems of basic research, but particularly the need for applied research, dispersion and focusing on topics of major importance for the country, integrated and multidisciplinary nature of the studies, and collaboration with foreign institutions, commercialisation of the national product abroad; priority and strategic directions of research (nanotechnology, industrial engineering, increasing the efficiency of the energetic complex), international visibility, interaction between the Academy and the Government, the interaction between potential applicants of intellectual product, building the information society, cooperation between the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications and the related research institutions (Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science and S. E. Information Society Development Institute).
