R&D ICT priorities for Moldova were identified

In order to intensify and consolidate the Research and Development Information and Communication Technologies cooperation of Eastern Europe and Southern Caucasus (EESC) countries with the European Union, the Consultation Workshop “Identifying Research and Development Priorities in the Information and Communication Technologies in Moldova for 2010-2015” was held in Chisinau, Moldova on 18 May.

The event was organized in the frame of the European project EXTEND by the partner from Moldova the Academy of Sciences of Moldova with the support of the Greek Company PLANET , which is the project coordinator

The aim of the Workshop was the consultation with the key ICT actors from Republic of Moldova in order to identify the main R&D ICT priorities of the country with the aim to strengthen the cooperation with the European Union in the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and development.
As a result of the Consultation Workshop seven R&D ICT priorities for the period of 2010-2015 were identified based on the objectives of the European Workprogramme on Information and communication technologies:

1. Internet of Services, Software & virtualization
2. Technology-Enhanced Learning
3. Intelligent Information Management
4. Computing Systems
5. Digital Libraries and digital preservation
6. Nanoelectronics Technology
7. ICT for Patient Safety

The Workshop was attended by 23 ICT actors from the Republic of Moldova coming from the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of ASM, Information Society Development Institute, State University of Moldova, Technical University of Moldova, Academy of Economic Studies, State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova, Ministry of Education, RENAM, medical institutions, private telecommunication companies as Moldcell and ERICSON, etc.
