The Vienna PhD School of Informatics is an international PhD School, funded by the Vienna University of Technology (TU Vienna), the City of Vienna and private sponsors. PhD students for this full-time programme are recruited world-wide, all courses are held in English.

The PhD School is located at TU Vienna and admits Austrian as well as international students annually. TU Vienna invites applications for a maximum of 15 PhD scholarships per year. The first study year of the PhD School started in October 2009. No tuition fees have to be paid by these holders of scholarships.

The seven Area Courses are research domain specific, following the faculty’s main research areas:

  • Business Informatics
  • Computational Intelligence
  • Computer Engineering
  • Distributed and Parallel Systems
  • Media Informatics and Visual Computing

About Scholarship

Each year a maximum of 15 students will be awarded a scholarship amounting to EUR 1.000 per month, to cover the cost of living. Travel expenses for e.g. attending conferences or summer schools will also be covered, upon approval. Scholarships for the Vienna PhD School of Informatics are available for Austrian as well as international students. Students working at TU Vienna are encouraged to apply, up to a defined number. However, they are excluded from funding.

  • Certificate of English language proficiency
  • Scan of the applicant’s passport – only the pages with picture and personal data
  • Officially certified transcripts of degree certificate/s (only for NON-EU-citizens (excl. Swiss nationals))
